The Happiness Quotient

The rush is on. The holidays are quickly approaching.

There’s a simple equation I’ve used to maximize the joy of the season, and it looks like this:

Happiness = reality/expectations

If our expectations are higher than what is happening in our reality, our happiness will be fractional. If reality matches or exceeds our expectations, we’re whole and off and running.

The easy hack for this of course is to have low expectations from the outset. The braver choice is to have high expectations, then hold ourselves accountable for the outcome. One easy way to do this that I often overlook is to communicate my expectations clearly in the first place. The people around us need to know what we want so they can help. It can be that simple.

Another tried and true way is to taste as many snowflakes as you can. #Enjoy
